eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) measures kidney function — how well the kidneys filter waste from blood. Calculated from serum creatinine, age, and sex using the CKD-EPI 2021 equation (replaces MDRD). Normal eGFR > 90 mL/min/1.73m².

Fun Fact
The kidneys filter about 180 litres of blood every 24 hours, producing only 1–2 litres of urine. At eGFR < 15 (stage 5), dialysis or transplantation becomes necessary.
