Operating leverage measures how sensitive a company's operating income (EBIT) is to changes in its revenue. It arises from the mix of fixed versus variable costs in a business's cost structure. There is no universally 'good' DOL — it depends on the industry and business model. Capital-intensive industries like utilities and manufacturing naturally run DOL of 3–8, while service businesses might run 1.5–3. How does operating leverage affect breakeven analysis?
