BAC & Alcohol Recovery

Estimate blood alcohol and sobering time

🍺Alcohol & BAC Recovery Calculator

⚠️ Estimated BAC only. Never drink and drive.

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) estimates how much alcohol is in the bloodstream, calculated using the Widmark formula. BAC is influenced by units consumed, body weight, time elapsed, and biological sex (different body water percentages).

💡

Tip: BAC estimates are highly variable between individuals. Never use BAC calculators to make decisions about driving — use a calibrated breathalyser or simply do not drive after drinking.

  1. 1Widmark formula: BAC% = (Alcohol grams) / (Body weight kg × 1000 × r) − 0.015 × hours
  2. 2r = 0.68 (males), 0.55 (females) — distribution factor
  3. 31 UK unit = 10ml pure alcohol = ~8g
  4. 4Alcohol eliminated at ~0.015% per hour (linear, not exponential)
4 pints (4% lager) · 70kg male · 2 hours drinking=BAC ≈ 0.087% (over UK legal limit of 0.08%)Drive limit 0.05% in Scotland, 0.08% in England/Wales
BAC %Typical effects
0.02–0.05Relaxation, mild impairment
0.05–0.08Judgement impaired, coordination reduced
0.08–0.15Legally drunk in most countries, clear impairment
0.15–0.25Significant impairment, nausea possible
> 0.25Risk of unconsciousness, death risk > 0.40%
