Buoyancy (upthrust) is the upward force exerted by a fluid on a submerged or partially submerged object. Archimedes' principle states: buoyant force = weight of fluid displaced by the object.

Fun Fact

Archimedes supposedly cried "Eureka!" when he discovered this principle while stepping into a bath and noticing the water overflow — allowing him to test whether the king's crown was pure gold.
