Why are conversion factors so awkward?
Historical units pre-date standardization. 1000 sqft = 92.9 m² (not a round number). 1 acre = 43,560 sqft (legacy of medieval ox-plowing area). 1 ton/acre = 2000 lb / 43.56 thousand sqft = 45.92 lb/1000sqft.
