A heat engine efficiency calculator applies the Carnot theorem to determine the theoretical maximum efficiency of a heat engine: η = 1 − (T_cold/T_hot), where temperatures are in Kelvin. A car engine with combustion at 2,000 K and exhaust at 700 K has a Carnot limit of 65%; real engines achieve 25–35%.
