The US Navy body fat method estimates body fat percentage from circumference measurements (neck, waist, hip for women) and height, without requiring expensive body composition equipment. It was developed for military fitness standards.

The US military uses this method to set maximum body fat standards: males under 40 must be ≤ 20% (Army), ≤ 22% (Navy), ≤ 18% (Marines). Failure can result in discharge.
