An HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) BTU calculator estimates the cooling or heating capacity needed for a room based on area, ceiling height, insulation, and climate.
- 1Basic rule: 20 BTU per sq ft for cooling (temperate climate)
- 2Add 10% for sunny rooms; subtract 10% for heavily shaded
- 3Add 600 BTU per person regularly in the room
- 41 ton of cooling = 12,000 BTU/hr
