Cooking Converter

A cooking converter converts between volume and weight units used in recipes worldwide: teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, fluid ounces, milliliters, grams, and ounces. Volume measures (cups) are common in the US; weight measures (grams) are preferred in professional baking for accuracy.

💡

Tip: For consistent baking results, use a kitchen scale and measure by weight rather than volume. A $10 scale eliminates measuring cup inaccuracy entirely.

  1. 13 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
  2. 216 tablespoons = 1 cup = 8 fl oz = 236.6 mL
  3. 3Weight conversions depend on ingredient density — 1 cup flour ≠ 1 cup sugar in grams
  4. 4Water: 1 cup = 236.6g; Flour: 1 cup ≈ 120g; Sugar: 1 cup ≈ 200g

Fun Fact

The metric system was designed to be logical for cooking: 1 gram of water = 1 mL = 1 cm³. Professional bakers use grams because 1 cup of sifted flour differs from 1 cup of packed flour by up to 30% in weight — a huge difference in bread baking.
