☕Coffee Ratio Calculator
A coffee ratio calculator determines the optimal amount of ground coffee relative to water for different brewing methods. The Specialty Coffee Association recommends a "golden ratio" of 1:16 to 1:18 (coffee:water by weight) as a starting point.
- 1Ratio = Coffee weight / Water weight
- 2Standard drip: 1:16 (e.g., 30g coffee per 480ml water)
- 3Espresso: 1:1.5 to 1:3 (double shot: 18g in → 36–54g out)
- 4French press: 1:12 for fuller body; cold brew: 1:4 to 1:8
| Method | Coffee:Water ratio | Example for 500ml |
|---|---|---|
| Pour over | 1:15 to 1:17 | 30–33g coffee |
| Drip machine | 1:16 to 1:18 | 28–31g coffee |
| French press | 1:12 to 1:15 | 33–42g coffee |
| Moka pot | 1:7 to 1:10 | 50–71g coffee |
| Cold brew | 1:4 to 1:8 | 63–125g coffee |
