Time Converter
Converts hours (and fractions of hours) to minutes, or minutes to hours. Commonly needed for payroll calculations, scheduling, time-tracking systems, and unit conversions in physics and engineering.
💡
Tip: For payroll: always convert decimal hours to h:mm before manually calculating pay. 8.83 hours × $15 = $132.45, but the employee worked 8h 50m, not 8h 83m.
- 1Hours to minutes: multiply by 60
- 2Minutes to hours: divide by 60
- 3Decimal hours to h:mm: integer part = hours, decimal × 60 = minutes
- 42.75 hours = 2 hours and 0.75×60 = 45 minutes = 2:45
| Decimal Hours | Hours : Minutes | Total Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25 hr | 0:15 | 15 min |
| 0.5 hr | 0:30 | 30 min |
| 0.75 hr | 0:45 | 45 min |
| 1.5 hr | 1:30 | 90 min |
| 2.33 hr | 2:20 | 140 min |
| 8.5 hr | 8:30 | 510 min |

Fun Fact
Timesheet software often records hours as decimals (8.5 hours) while scheduling software uses h:mm (8:30). Converting between the two is a surprisingly common source of payroll errors — 8 hours 50 minutes ≠ 8.5 hours.
