A ceiling fan size calculator recommends the correct blade span for a room based on square footage. Rooms up to 144 sq ft need a 42-inch fan; 144–225 sq ft need a 44–50 inch fan; rooms over 400 sq ft may need multiple fans or a fan over 60 inches in diameter. Higher ceilings require a longer downrod.
