The Burnout Assessment Tool used here is adapted from the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the gold-standard instrument for measuring burnout developed by Christina Maslach (1981). Burnout is characterised by three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced personal accomplishment. It is recognised by the WHO as an occupational phenomenon (ICD-11).
Tip: Burnout recovery typically requires systemic changes, not just personal coping strategies. If you score high, consider speaking to your GP or occupational health team. The HSE Stress Management Standards provide a framework for employers to address work-related stress.
