A tax bracket calculator determines the effective tax rate and total tax owed based on income and filing status under a progressive tax system. In the US, being in the "22% bracket" does not mean all income is taxed at 22% — only the income within that bracket is taxed at that rate; lower income is taxed at lower rates.
