Horsepower Calculator
Horsepower (HP) measures the rate of work an engine can perform. It is calculated from torque and RPM: HP = Torque × RPM / 5252. The constant 5252 comes from unit conversion (one horsepower = 550 ft-lb/sec × 60 sec × 2π).

Tip: For daily driving, torque matters more than peak HP — torque determines acceleration from a stop. HP matters more at high speeds and sustained power output.

Fun Fact
James Watt invented the horsepower unit in the 1780s to compare his steam engines to horses. He observed that a horse could do 33,000 foot-pounds of work per minute — and set that as 1 HP.
