A gutter sizing calculator determines the correct gutter width and downspout placement for a roof, based on roof area, rainfall intensity, and gutter slope. Undersized gutters overflow during heavy rain, causing foundation and landscape damage. Standard residential gutters are 5 or 6 inches wide.
