The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) Score Calculator computes subscale and global scores from 28 self-report items measuring eating disorder psychopathology over the past 28 days across restraint, eating concern, shape concern, and weight concern.

Công thức

Global EDE-Q Score = (Restraint + Eating Concern + Shape Concern + Weight Concern) / 4; each subscale is the mean of its items (0-6)
GS
Global Score (mean (0-6)) — Average of all four subscale means; overall eating disorder severity
RS
Restraint Subscale (mean (0-6)) — Mean of 5 items assessing dietary restraint and food rules
SC
Shape Concern (mean (0-6)) — Mean of 8 items assessing preoccupation with body shape
WC
Weight Concern (mean (0-6)) — Mean of 5 items assessing preoccupation with body weight

Hướng dẫn từng bước

  1. 1Complete 28 items rated 0-6 based on the past 28 days
  2. 2Items are grouped into 4 subscales: Restraint (5 items), Eating Concern (5 items), Shape Concern (8 items), Weight Concern (5 items)
  3. 3Calculate the mean for each subscale
  4. 4Global score is the average of the 4 subscale means; higher scores indicate greater pathology

đầu vào
Restraint: 3.2, Eating Concern: 2.8, Shape Concern: 4.1, Weight Concern: 3.5
Kết quả
Global EDE-Q: (3.2 + 2.8 + 4.1 + 3.5) / 4 = 3.40 — above community norms (1.5-2.0), clinically elevated
đầu vào
Restraint: 0.8, Eating Concern: 0.5, Shape Concern: 1.2, Weight Concern: 0.9
Kết quả
Global EDE-Q: (0.8 + 0.5 + 1.2 + 0.9) / 4 = 0.85 — within normal community range

Lỗi thường gặp cần tránh

  • Including behavioral frequency items (binge episodes, purging) in subscale calculations — these are counted separately as frequencies, not means
  • Comparing scores to clinical norms instead of community norms, leading to under-identification in community settings
  • Ignoring that the Shape Concern subscale is the strongest predictor of eating disorder diagnosis among all subscales

Câu hỏi thường gặp

What is a normal EDE-Q score?

Community norms for the global EDE-Q score in women are approximately 1.5-2.0 (mean ~1.6, SD ~1.3). Scores above 2.8 (1 SD above mean) are considered clinically elevated. Community norms for men are somewhat lower.

How does the EDE-Q differ from the clinical EDE interview?

The EDE-Q is a self-report questionnaire version of the clinician-administered Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) interview. The EDE-Q tends to produce slightly higher scores than the interview version, particularly on binge eating frequency.
