How to Calculate Drywall
What is Drywall?
A drywall (plasterboard) calculator estimates the number of sheets needed to line walls or ceilings of a room. Standard UK sheets are 2400×1200mm (or 2.88 m²); 4×8 ft sheets (3.07 m²) are standard in North America.
Step-by-Step Guide
- 1Calculate total wall/ceiling area in m²
- 2Divide by sheet area to get sheet count
- 3Add 10% for cuts around doors, windows, corners, and outlets
- 4Count fixings: 1 screw per 300mm at perimeter, 300mm grid in field
Worked Examples
Input
Room 4×5m · 2.5m ceiling · 4 walls + ceiling
Result
~14 sheets (2400×1200mm)
Walls 45m² ÷ 2.88 = 16 minus openings
