The GAD-7 (Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale) is a validated screening tool developed by Spitzer et al (2006) for detecting and measuring the severity of generalised anxiety disorder. It is widely used in NHS primary care as part of the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) programme.
Pro Tip
GAD-7 is widely used in NHS IAPT services. If your score is 10 or above, consider speaking to your GP who can refer you to talking therapies. Free NHS talking therapies are available at nhs.uk/talk.
