A landscape mulch calculator determines how many cubic yards or bags of mulch are needed to cover a garden bed at the recommended depth. Recommended depth is 2–4 inches; a 100 sq ft bed needs 1 cubic yard (27 cubic feet) at 4-inch depth. Fresh mulch applied annually prevents weed growth and retains soil moisture.
