Dog BMI Calculator

Stand dog on level surface. Measure from ground to top of shoulder (withers). Stiff ruler or measuring tape. Some variation by posture; measure 2–3 times.

Less so; height varies dramatically (Chihuahua 5 kg vs Great Dane 80 kg). Body condition score (ribs palpable, waist visible) better. BMI supplementary only.

Joint disease, diabetes, reduced lifespan (6–12 months). Hip dysplasia worse. Obesity common (60% of dogs overweight). Diet control + exercise essential.
