A time calculator adds, subtracts, or converts time values in hours, minutes, and seconds. Used for timesheet calculations, trip planning, cooking, sports timing, and any situation requiring arithmetic on time values rather than standard numbers.

Tip: For payroll: hours worked × hourly rate. With overtime (>40hr US): first 40 at regular rate, remainder at 1.5×. Convert decimal hours carefully: 8.5 hours is 8h 30m, not 8h 50m.

- 3Convert result back: divide by 3600 for hours, remainder/60 for minutes, etc.
- 4For duration across midnight: add 24 hours if end is before start

The Babylonians (c. 2000 BCE) gave us the 60-minute hour and 60-second minute — their base-60 (sexagesimal) number system made 60 ideal because it divides evenly by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 30.
